Bowel management is a process used to manage fecal incontinence or constipation in a person living with a bowel disability or medical condition. Individuals who have a disability or medical condition which impairs control of their defecation use bowel management techniques to choose a predictable time and place to evacuate. These techniques might include diet control and establishing a toilet routine or the use of an enema. Sometimes other options include oral and/or anal medication, digital stimulation or manual evacuation.
