Reference Check Questions
Careseekers gets two references when onboarding a worker onto the platform. As a Careseeker you may wish to do reference checking on your own as you can ask questions regarding your own personal care and support needs. While professional referees are the best, you may also be calling an education related supervisor or a personal reference, e.g. pastor, landlord.
Below are some questions you may want to ask a referee:
Establish the referee's relationship with the person
- How do you know the person?
- How long did/has the person worked for you?
- What was the person's role or job title?
- What tasks did the person have to perform in this role?
- Why does the person no longer work for you (if applicable)
Referee's opinion of the person
Does the person have any weaknesses or did any issues arise while the person was engaged by you?
- What were the person's strengths?
- Was/is the person reliable?
- Was/is the person trustworthy?
- Was/is the person helpful?
- Level of English, if relevant (or any other required language)
Referee's opinion on whether the person will be right for your role.
Give details of the tasks you will ask the care worker to perform and ask the referee if they would recommend this person for the job e.g. I am looking for this person to be a care worker for my elderly mother who lives in her home alone. My mother is very physically frail and needs assistance with personal care and some social companionship. She can be very bossy.
Anything else...
- Is there anything else I should know about this person that hasn't already been covered in our conversation?
- How do you think the person will go in this role?
- How do you think the person will relate to the person being cared for or supported?
Best of Luck from the Team at Careseekers
